Thank goodness I found the time to write this blog post! Kyler-Rose is finally over her cold (well she still has a slight cough/runny nose). BUT she is doing a hell of a lot better and boy was that a journey. It was so heartbreaking to see my little baby struggling to breathe and sleep. It is also heartbreaking to know that there is nothing you can do besides let the cold run its course. WelllllI I mean there weren't any medications to help cure the cold. Babies aren't able to take anything at such a young age (which makes sense).
So I ended up taking my baby to the doctors office twice in one week (yes I am extra), because I wanted to be sure I was doing all of the right things. There is so much to worry about when your baby is sick. I was afraid when she would cough and choke on her mucus. I got really scared when I read about how babies are quick to become dehydrated. So I wanted to write this post for the moms out there who have gone through this or are new to the game. I am not a medical doctor nor should my remedies be taken without the consent of your baby's professional doctor.
Over-the-counter products:
Vicks: Baby Rub
Zarbee's Baby Cough & Mucus Relief: Liquid (AGAVE)- DO NOT GET THE ONE WITH HONEY, BABIES CAN'T DIGEST HONEY, AND IT CAN CAUSE THEM TO BECOME VERY ILL.

Tylenol Fever & Pain: Liquid
Nose Frida
Ear Wax Bulb
Unflavored Pedialyte for Infants
Thermometer
In-Home Actions:
Steaming Showers- Yes! Turn your shower on all the way hot and sit in the bathroom with your baby. This helps your baby breathe and even helps the mucus expel. Be alert not to let your baby touch the hot water. I sat on the toilet with Ky. To preserve warm water, I asked my mom to hold the baby while I took a shower.
Humidifier- I use the Vicks brand humidifier and I put in the baby vapor pads. The humidifier keeps her from coughing and helps her breathe at night
Propping Her Up/Elevating Her- While she slept I used her Boppy to prop her up so she wouldn't get stuffy. It's important to keep in mind SIDS and baby sleeping safety when you're doing this.
Breastfeeding/Feeding- If you are a breastfeeding mama, that is the best thing to do! While you will notice your baby won't eat a lot while he/she is sick, it is important to offer your boob or formula as often as possible
Wash Your Hands- This is important all the time, but this is even more important when your baby is sick because you don't want to catch their germs or spread them
Overall just love your baby and be patient. You will lose a lot of sleep, this can be a stressful period for both you and your baby. Make sure you wash all your baby's blankets and clothes, and disinfect toys etc. Hang in there! Your baby will be happy and healthy again soon.
