I was so excited to make memories for Kyler-Rose’s first Christmas, that I failed to think out a plan for getting family pictures taken. The pictures are nice and I do love them, don’t get me wrong, but it was not worth the price we paid for the pictures.
I am writing this post to help you know the Do’s and Do Not’s when preparing for family pictures:

Do’s
1. Schedule Your Appointment
If you do decide to go to a portrait store to get your pictures taken, it is important to call ahead of time to make an appointment. During busy holiday’s places like that are packed and often do not accept walk-ins.
2. Do your research
Local photographers are way cheaper then going to stores. They are also more patient with getting the best family shot!
3. Color Coordinate
4. With Infants
If you have infant baby’s try to schedule your shoot early in the day when your baby is less likely to be fussy. Also, avoid scheduling doing feeding time
5. Try to take the pictures yourself!
Going to a portrait store can break your pockets. Hiring a photographer can sometimes be pricey. Why not, use that new IPhone X? Even Android’s have great picture quality!
Do Not’s
1. Don’t over spend on picture packages and accessories at stores
You can easily pick one or two of your favorite shots to get scanned. There are also websites like Shutterfly.com, which allow you to make very personal items.
2. Don’t buy something you will never wear again
Try to use what you already have in your closet. It helps to be resourceful!
3. Don’t match
Avoid everyone having on the same exact outfit. Everyone being a little different adds personality to the pictures
4. Don’t feel obligated to buy pictures if you do not like them
I experienced this when we took our pictures, I didn’t realize how much leeway and control I had when it came to making decisions about the pictures we took. Be in control of your shoot!
